1. Cave Dwelling

The Old Stone Age was the period during which man made and used instruments, lived by hunting and collecting and lived in cave or dugout as the first cultural stage in the developmental process of  mankind.  It is assumed that the period ranged from 2500 thousand years to ten thousand years ago.  In Korean peninsular, it is estimated that the old stone age has begun from 700 thousand years ago.

Iin the Old Stone Age, the human beings can take food, shelter and clothing from the state of nature. They had been used the cave as their shelter to protect themselves from beasts or take shelter from rain and wind.  Examples include limestone cave at Sangwon, Pyeongannamdo, Jeommal cave at Jaewon, Chungbuk and Durubong cave at Cheongwon, Chungbuk.

There was a case that the man built their dugout at the riverside to get water and hunt and there are relics at Seokjang-ri, Gongju-gun, Chungnam and Jeongok-ri, Yeonchun-gun, Gyeongkido.

    2. Group Community Life

The life pattern in the Old Stone Age was a group community life.  People during this age had a group life moving in family units and the man with the most experience and wisdom among them was the leader.  He controlled them with power.  It is assumed that the housing site of the later Old Stone Age found at Seokjang-ri, Gongju-gun was 7.5 meters long east and west and 7 meters long and a family of three, four or 10 members lived together in a group.

People in the Old Stone Age who relied on the nature had to look for new foods when they ran out of the foods gathered by collecting and hunting around their cave.  So they moved to look for foods according to the change of seasons.
