1.Collecting

Means of livelihood in this period were mainly collecting, fishing and hunting. Among them, collecting was a main means because there was a limitation for them to deliver their foods by hunting beasts faster and stronger than them with a weak instrument such as chipped stone tool.

Collecting was mainly the women's role inside and outside the cave and the collected objects included plants and worms in the earth and crawfish in a small stream.

    2. Chasing
Since the simple instruments such as hand axes and choppers were used for hunting in the Old Stone Age, it was impossible for a man to hunt a big and fierce beast like a rhinoceros.  So the men in this period chased the beasts in groups to complement their weakness.

The game were elephant and rhinoceros which represented the beasts that lived in cold and hot regions respectively.  Animal fossils which lived in damp areas like water buffalo and monkeys were found at Sangwon black anvil cave and the number of rhinoceroses was most among these fossils.

For effective hunting in this period, cooperation among hunters was required and for this communication was also needed.  In this process, language was born, which made mankind a thinking entity.
