We can understand the people's life in those days and their sense of values and the world through the grave goods excavated at dolmens.  Furthermore, the Bronze Age in Korea has the same vein as the dolmen.  So the roles of dolmens in tracing the history of the Bronze Age should be great.  We can get an understanding of the social characteristics and the origin of the country in those days through dolmens.

1. Settlement, Farming and Community Life

The erection of dolmens required quarrying and carrying a huge rock including many people.  For society to mobilize a large labor force requires settlement and its foundation as farming must secure a stable food source.  So dolmens were erected as a byproduct of farming, settlement and community life.

2. Deepening of Conflicts Between Groups

Competition between groups to establish a farm which is the foundation of a stable life was deepened in dolmen society.  Such  competition required a boundary between communities and a dolmen was erected as an indication of their areas.

3. Professional Craftsman and Trading

The bronze sword and ground stone sword among the relics excavated at dolmens were manufactured by skilled professionals.  The Bipa type bronze sword had a similar size to those excavated at Songgok-ri, Buyeo, Jeokryang-dong, Yeocheon and Jindong-ri, Changwon and it is assumed that those might be made by the same frame or the same craftsman.

Making the ground stone sword was very complicated in its shape and should have the regular form within a 1fit thickness, which required an elaborate technique.  That ground stone sword was discovered in several regions means that it was made by the same craftsman or used the stone material in the same area.

It suggested that there were diverse professional groups in the Bronze Age and active trading was done among groups.

4. Appearance of Ruling Class

The process of the appearance of the ruling class and rulers in the social structure of the Bronze Age can be assumed through the number of groups of people, excavated relics and the layout of grave rooms.
