¡ß Distribution Dolmens of Gangwondo

Prehistoric relics of Gangwondo province are densely distributed at Namhan and Bukhan River and the East coast. Distribution of dolmens of Gangwon province is closely connected with the rivers.

In Yangkoo, Hwachun, Chunchon, and Inje which belong to the area of Bukhan river, 118 pieces of dolmens are left. Most of them are distributed irregularly, but twelve pieces of dolmens are erected in a line within a distance of 360m(400yds) in the direction of the river as dolmens in Godaeri, Yangku. This type of erection is found in dolmens in Chunjeonri, Chuncheon and Sidongri, Hongcheonri.

It is reported that 113 pieces of dolmens were distributed in the area of Namhan river, but just 70 pieces are left now. In the east coast , there were 85 pieces of dolmens, but just 75 pieces of dolmens are left.

As for Gangwon province, there is a regional deviation except the east coast and the Kyongpo Lake, Gangreung. Down to the southern part of Yongdong, dolmens are sharply decreasing, and in Donghae city, just three pieces of dolmens were found. It is known that dolmens are densely distributed north of the central part of Yongdong district.
