¡ß Distribution Dolmens of Gyeongsangnamdo

About 1240 pieces of dolmens are distributed in Gyeongsangnamdo(Gyeongnam).

Dolmens appeared at the similar period as other areas south of the central area of the Korean Peninsular. Dolmens in the upper area of the Hwang river have a considerable similarity with those of the Honam area in distribution pattern of Yukoo as well as in structure.

However, as for distribution type of dolmens within and between counties and the transitional direction of their structure, there is a difference between this area and others. In particular, considering an aspect of dolmens in the late Bronze age, which were found in the coast area of Gyeongnam, it is shown that dolmens in this area had a very distinctive developmental process. And through examining a huge altar found in Dukchunri, Changwon, a large common burial ground found in Leegeumdong, Sachun, and a hierarchical distribution of burial system which centers on large dolmens, it can be understood that ceremonies in this area had a distinctive developmental process.

Considering dolmens in Gyongnam, normal dolmens have huge capstones, but as for dolmens in Dukchunri, Changwon, they are different from others in that the depth and width of burial facilities were maximized for erection. Here, a remodeled Korean mandolin-shaped bronze sword and stone sword were excavated.
