According to a number of field investigation reports and earth surface survey reports, about 1,600 pieces of dolmens were confirmed in Jeollabukdo(jeonbuk). The area with the most dense distribution of dolmens is Gochang which borders the west coast, and about 1,200 pieces (72% of whole dolmes )are scattered in Gochang-gun. And among them, about 500 pieces are closely distributed in Sanggapri and Jukrimri ( Historic Site No. 391 ). Also the biggest dolmen in the south is erected here.

In Buan-gun, a coastal area to the north of Gochang, about 45 pieces of dolmens were confirmed, and as one goes to the north of this place, the number of dolmens sharply decreases. In Kimje-gun, 11 pieces were confirmed and in Gunsan city and Okgu-gun,  18 pieces were investigated. However, no dolmens were confirmed in Iksan-gun.

In Wanju-gun, Jeongeup_city, and Imsil-gun which are near the west coast even though they are inland, about 80 pieces of dolmens were confirmed. In mountainous areas, a considerable number of dolmens were found, and especially in Muju, Jinan and Jangsu, about 123 pieces of dolmens were confirmed. And also in Namwon-gun and Sunchang-gun, about 160 pieces of dolmens were investigated.

Types of dolmens are mainly the southern district-type and the Gaeseok-type. However, typical northern district-type dolmens were found in Gochang and Jangsu. In dolmens of Jeonju, only a few relics were excavated.
