¡ß Distribution Dolmens of Chungcheongbukdo
 

Compared with the distribution of dolmens in other areas, the density of dolmen distribution in Chungbuk province is not very high. Part of the dolmens in this area are concentrated at tributaries such as the Miho stream and the Bosung stream or at the place through which the Geumgang and Namhan rivers run. And no dolmens have ever been  investigated in Danyang which is the upper area of the Namhan river and located around Mt. Sobaek.

207 pieces of dolmens were investigated in the Chungbuk area and they are divided as follows : 2 in the ridge of the mountain (1.0%), 50 on the foot of the hill (24.1%), 70 in hilly districts (33.8%) and 85 on level ground (41.1%).

The highest density of the dolmen distribution is found in the relics of Hwangseokri, Jechon. Here 46 are distributed  in the same direction as the flow of the river on the low alluvial plain along the Namhan river.

As for types of dolmens, 183 are the Gaeseok-type (87.2%), 15 are the base-type (8.0%) and 9 are the table-type (4.8%).
