The number of dolmens that have been investigated so far is just 120 pieces. It is assumed that there were more dolmens in Jejudo. It is considered that dolmens in this area are made of basalt that is easily broken. As there have been villages at the places where dolmens were erected, it is thought that most of them were damaged.

Most of the dolmens in Jeju are independently arranged. Though some dolmens are arranged in groups, they are spaced apart several tens of hundreds of meters. The arrangement is in contrast with that of Jeonnam, in which more than 50 pieces are gathered within 100 pyeong-area. Dolmens of Jeju are usually concentrated in the coastal area less than 100m above sea level.

And most dolmens in Jeju are distributed in Jeju city, the north-east and the south-west area while sparse in the south-east area. No dolmens were confirmed in the north-east. However, certain dolmens are located at the place 300m(333yds) above sea level.
