Dolmens of Juklimri, Gochang |
|
|
|
As for dolmens in this area, the exposed stone chamber is low over the surface and capstones are thick like the base-type. The typical table-type dolmens disappeared and were adapted to their region. Of dolmens in Juklimri and Sangkapri, 447 were investigated followed by the examination of 108 pieces buried. If the dolmens destroyed before the investigation are added, it is assumed that there were 1,000 dolmens. ¡ß Dolmens of Dosanri, Gochang
To the north-west of Dosanri ridgeline, the Sungteul peaks are seen, on which the Seosan wall is located. They are not very big with altitudes of 140m(155.6yds) and 180m(200yds). On the inclined plane of more than a 0.63mile area from Sangkapri through Maesanri to Haengjung village, three or five small and big rocks are arranged in groups or in lines. This is known as the place with the largest dolmen groups, and it has been known that there are about 500 pieces of dolmens here. Most of Dosanri has a smooth inclination( 10-30%) and dolmens are distributed on the area with little inclination. Dolmens in this area have large eaves and thin capstones like a table-type in the north or Liaotung. ¡ß
Dolmens of Bugeunri, Ganghwa
Centering on this dolmen, about 80 pieces of dolmens are distributed. ¡ß
Dolmens of Dukchonri, Changwon
These dolmens are usually arranged horizontally and they have chambers under which stone coffins are added. In this relic, the stone axes are interesting, which may have surrounded the dolmens to mark a boundary. Relics excavated include 9 red Gan earthen wares, 3 Gan stone swords, 36 Gan stone arrowheads, 1 stone chisel, 1 remodelled Korean mandolin-shaped sword and several Munmu earthen wares. Dolmens in this area provide data to show regional characteristics of dolmen structure and living of the Bronze age people who marked off one lot from another lot for tombs. ¡ß
Dolmens of Ohlimdong, Yeosu
A Korean mandolin-shaped stone sword was excavated from No. 8 and No. 5 of Ohlimdong Dolmens. Besides, a number of relics including a piece of ground stone sword, a stone arrowhead, cylinder-shaped jade, pieces of earthen wares without patterns, a red ground earthen ware and so forth were excavated. The picture engraved on the capstone of the No. 5 dolmen is the most distinctive in this area. In this picture, people and ground stone swords are represented on the side of the capstone. It is the only engraved stone picture in Jeonnam. |
