¡ß Dolmens of Juklimri, Gochang

These dolmens are located in Juklim, Gochang-eup, Jeonbuk and Sangkapri, Asa-myeon and were designated as National Historic Site No. 391. The altitude of this place is 15m(16.7yds) at the minimum point and 199m(221yds) at the maximum point.  Most dolmens are arranged in groups according to the contour line within the altitude of 1550m(1722yds) along the south ridge starting from Maesan village , Juklimri.

As for dolmens in this area, the exposed stone chamber is low over the surface and capstones are thick like the base-type. The typical table-type dolmens disappeared and were adapted to their region. Of dolmens in Juklimri and Sangkapri, 447 were investigated followed by the examination of 108 pieces buried. If the dolmens destroyed before the investigation are added, it is assumed that there were 1,000 dolmens.

    ¡ß Dolmens of Dosanri, Gochang

To the north-west of Dosanri ridgeline, the Sungteul peaks are seen, on which the Seosan wall is located. They are not very big with altitudes of 140m(155.6yds) and 180m(200yds).  On the inclined plane of more than a 0.63mile area from Sangkapri through Maesanri to Haengjung village, three or five small and  big rocks are arranged in groups or in lines. This is known as the place with the largest dolmen groups, and it has been known that there are about 500 pieces of dolmens here.

Most of Dosanri has a smooth inclination( 10-30%) and  dolmens are distributed on the area with little inclination. Dolmens in this area have large eaves and thin capstones like a table-type in the north or Liaotung.

    ¡ß Dolmens of Bugeunri, Ganghwa

These Table-type dolmens are located on the ground over the north foot of Mt. Sirumae which corresponds to the north peak of Mt.Goryoe. They were designated as the Historic  Site No. 137. It is the biggest of the table-type dolmens that have been excavated in the southern part of our country.
Its capstone is 650cm(21.7ft) on the main axis, 520cm(17.3ft) wide, 120cm (4ft) thick, and 260cm(8.7ft) tall. Considering that the huge capstone is erected by supporting stones and it stands on the place that can be easily seen, it may have been a monument that stands for groups of dolmens on an altar rather than a tomb.

Centering on this dolmen, about 80 pieces of dolmens are distributed.

    ¡ß Dolmens of Dukchonri, Changwon

These dolmens are located in the place at which the irrigated level ground down the hill meets the mountain. And 3 pieces of dolmens, 12 pieces of tombs with stone coffins and 5 pieces of mud tombs were excavated here. They are distributed in the place within 90m horizontally and 230m(0.06mile - 0.15mile) vertically. There were six strange-shaped rocks that look like capstones, but for three of them , no presence of burial under the rocks has been confirmed.

These dolmens are usually arranged horizontally and they have chambers under which stone coffins are added.

In this relic, the stone axes are interesting, which may have surrounded the dolmens to mark a boundary. Relics excavated include 9 red Gan earthen wares, 3 Gan stone swords, 36 Gan stone arrowheads, 1 stone chisel, 1 remodelled Korean mandolin-shaped sword and several Munmu earthen wares.

Dolmens in this area provide data to show regional characteristics of dolmen structure and living of the Bronze age people who marked off one lot from another lot for tombs.

    ¡ß Dolmens of Ohlimdong, Yeosu

These ten pieces of dolmens, which are distributed on a small valley-type level ground, were designated as the Local Monument No. 150. Huge strange-shaped dolmens are in groups and among them, four pieces have supporting stones. Capstones are more than 1 - 2m(3.3ft - 6.7ft) thick and have a magnificent appearance.

A Korean mandolin-shaped stone sword was excavated from No. 8  and No. 5 of Ohlimdong Dolmens. Besides, a number of relics including a piece of ground stone sword, a stone arrowhead, cylinder-shaped jade, pieces of earthen wares without patterns, a red ground earthen ware and so forth were excavated.

The picture engraved on the capstone of the No. 5 dolmen is the most distinctive in this area. In this picture, people and ground stone swords are represented on the side of the capstone. It is the only engraved stone picture in Jeonnam.
